Friends don't let friends oppress and torture.
Oh, wait. Yes they do.
Our allies (read: people who have made the Bush family rich) have this charming little...oh wait, it isn't a democracy....aren't our troops being killed and maimed to spread democracy...well...never mind......LOOK! It's Bin Laden! Hehhehheh.
Saudi Arabian women: cannot drive, cannot work, cannot VOTE, cannot leave their homes without a male escort - this is why this 19 year old gang rape victim has been sentenced to jail time and 200 lashes with a whip. Two hundred. Lashes. With a whip. Because she went outside.
Saudi Arabian women cannot see a doctor unless a male family member gives permission. Cannot open a bank account without the permission of a male family member. Cannot have custody of their children.
I get so confused sometimes.
Oppression and torture are good, the inherent right of the government of Saudi Arabia to control..oops govern its citizens.
Oppression and torture in Iraq is morally wrong and evil and we must sacrifice the lives of our soldiers and go 10 trillion dollars in debt to end it.
Okay, I think I get it. Torture and oppression are in the eye of the money-holder.

What is it about women that scare men so much?
Could it be we are can create life? Could it be because are normally smarter and have more problem solving abilities?
Why is it even in this "enlightened country" we need to segregate the sexes? You had your article on Comcast and their stupid "Reasons why women pick bad mates" or whatever it was. Yesterday I was at the Wine and More store on Ashley River and went into the adult real booze section.
I went to the virtual bartender screen for some recipes for martinis. At that machine I had to put in the date I was born, which was OK I guess, I have no idea why a computer needed my age to continue. Then it asked me my sex.
Um, Why?
So the recipes can be full of fruity nonsensical drinks? Bahama Mamas or Fuzzy Navels and all those other chick drinks?
I went ahead and put in female and I was right, every type of liquor had fruity drinks available to me. I then logged back into the computer as a male and got more of the drink recipes I went in there in first place.
Do they think all women need fruit juice in their drinks in order for them to drinks?
Bullshit! There was a time I could drink most footballers under the table when I was in college. Shot for shot of JD.
Think of Karen Allen in IJ:The Temple of Doom.
I don't drink like that now, I grew up, (unfortunately) but when I do decide to toss some back I don't want a fruit juice filled gak fest. I want a martini or a G&T, not a sea breeze!
Why does everything need to be divided between the sexes?
But we segregate everything in America- men/women, black/white, rich/poor, liberal/conservative, North/South, East/West, red barbeque/yellow barbeque...on and on. We like our labels and we like people to conform to our expectations of those labels.
It's horrible. I want to cheer when I see scenes of rowdy women out protesting as they have been some lately in Pakistan.
From Molly Ivins last article on Jan. 26, 2007 - she died on Feb. 9 - works for more than this war - we need to RAISE HELL! - until they listen:
"We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war. Raise hell. Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous. Make our troops know we’re for them and trying to get them out of there. Hit the streets to protest Bush’s proposed surge. If you can, go to the peace march in Washington on Jan. 27. We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, “Stop it, now!”
