I'm fairly sure that isn't a flicker. It's a female red-bellied woodpecker (and no, they don't actually have red-bellies). Flickers have black breast-bands and spotted bellies.
By George, you're right! Thanks for catching that.
I used to use a seed mix in winter that was heavy on dried fruits and oily seeds including peanuts. I had to stop because the red-bellied woodpeckers would toss seed onto the ground until they found the peanuts before flying off with them. Rinse and repeat. Ground-feeders like the ducks and doves loved it, though.
Oh, my goodness, those are wonderful birds--I especially love Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal!
